Awesome training opportunity!
Terry Trahan from Conflict Research Group, Intl. and director of KSMA Global will be joining us here in Chehalis for two days of training on March 3-4. Having lived on the streets of LA, Terry has a unique and realistic perspective on what violence actually looks like and how to effectively and efficiently survive the realities of the street. This is a rare opportunity to talk to and learn from someone who can tell you from personal experience what actually happens in the real world. Terry's techniques are simple, practical, and effective. Topics covered during the weekend will include... Violence and Conflict ProgressionThis is a discussion module where we lay out the context where violence occurs. We discuss the legal, physical, and mental ramifications, self defense as a legal concept (with emphasis on using weapons), and the aftermath. Counter Assault and Empty Hand ResponseIn this module, we cover body mechanics, movement, defensive responses, and a variety of follow ups to the initial counter assault. This segment also covers targeting, leverage, footwork, power generation, and last-ditch extreme responses. Impact WeaponsThis module encompasses handheld, small impact weapons such as pens, flashlights, yawaras, and koppo sticks. We also cover some of the more obscure handheld impact tools such as saps, blackjacks, knuckledusters, and monkeyfists, including a historical overview, legalities and effective use. Close Quarters Knife ConceptsOur edged weapons module covers the full spectrum of effective knife use, starting with a discussion on lethal force/tool justification, and proceeding to effective use, defense against in both static and moving encounters, and targeting for best effect. Centered around quick reaction from the draw, this course emphasizes the use of Reverse Grip Edge In and Forward Grip Edge Up as a primary response. We also can do specialized courses, such as push daggers, straight razors, kerambit, and razor blade. We engage in discussion on best practices for carry, deployment, positions of carry, and effecting a draw from disadvantaged position. During all of our modules, there will be ample time for questions from the attendees, attention paid to the concepts setting in, and practice time. We use variations of drills both from martial arts and drills such as the One Step. In all our modules we stress the need to understand the legalities of the actions we take. We also expose the students to the seriousness of the actions we take, and give each student a chance to explore their reactions to them. |
